Questions You May Have
All of our meat is pasture-raised and grain-finished. They're never in a confinement enclosure. We use grain to get heavier carcass weights. All grains are talked through with a nutritionist and only fed at safe rates. We value quality over quantity, so our animals are never pushed ahead of where their bodies are ready to be.
The short answer is, "No." According to the USDA:
For meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy, this means the animals are raised without antibiotics or growth hormones and are given organic feed, with access to the outdoors.
Our meat hits every point except the antibiotics and organic feed. Organic feed will drive the cost of the final products up, so we choose not to abide by this to help with customer pricing. It is also VERY DIFFICULT to get a hold of, and it would mean a very inconsistent feeding schedule/grain for our animals. We use antibiotics. They are always used as a last resort, with some of our animals never having received antibiotics. However, we do use them in cases where there is no other course of action except euthanasia. We pride ourselves on providing extreme comfort and care for our animals, no matter what.
YES. We always vaccinate our animals to be sure they are protected. We are minimalist vaccinators of our animals because we believe the immune system is the best vaccine. However, we have frequent transitions of animals and visitors at our farm, and biosecurity is of the utmost importance to us and the well-being of our animals, especially as we are a farm with multiple birthing operations and species all in one area.
